The European Tian Guo Marching Band is truly unique – it brings together musicians from more than ten European countries and from many different walks of life. Along with their love of music, all of its members are united by their practice of Falun Dafa (for more information, please visit http://en.falundafa.org).
The principles of Falun Dafa – Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance – are universal in nature, and it is therefore altogether fitting that the Chinese name Tian Guo (meaning 'celestial') should be reminiscent of heaven. Music crosses borders and unites people and cultures. The members of Tian Guo Marching Band wish to bring joy to their audiences through their music. Their repertoire includes original compositions like Falun Dafa Hao and Song Bao, as well as classical works such as Ode to Joy and the Triumphal March from Verdi’s Aida.
The majority of the members of the European Tian Guo Marching Band are of Chinese descent. At present, around 100 members between 9 and 70 years of age play in the band. The European Tian Guo Marching Band participates in cultural parades and events in European cities such as London, Paris, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Warsaw and Berlin. With its performances, the band also draws attention to the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. Further information can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Falun_Gong.

(Minghui.org, 24.11.2019) “This parade is impressive. It is peaceful, yet it caught people's attention. Compared with other protests, the Falun Gong practitioners' way is very effective,” said Elvis, a law student at a university in Vienna, Austria.

The European Tian Guo Marching Band performed in Greece for the first time on October 11-12, 2019, giving four performances in Athens.
The Tian Guo Marching Band is composed entirely of Falun Gong practitioners. Through the band's performances, practitioners hoped the Greek people would sense how beneficial Falun Gong is and become aware of the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Joy, beautiful sparking of divinity,
Elysian daughter
We walk drunk with fire,
O Heavenly one, in your sanctuary!
Your magic puts back together
What Custom sternly broke a part;
All people
become brothers,
Where your gentle wing tarries.
Whoever has accomplished the great feat,
Of being a friend to a friend;
Whoever has won a fair wife,
Ante up your jubilation!
Yes,
including he who calls
Even just one soul on this earth his!
And whoever can't say the same,
Must steal away crying from this gathering!
All of creation drinks Joy
From Nature's breasts;
All the good people, and the evil
Follow her trail of roses.
She gave us kisses and vines,
A friend, tried and true1;
Even the worm was given delight,
And the Cherub stands before God.
Brothers, run along your path2
Mirthfully, like his heavenly objects fly
Through the magnificent layout of the sky
Joyfully, like a hero to victory.
Be embraced, you millions!
This
kiss to the whole world!
Brothers, above the starry firmament
A dear father must live.
Do you bow low, millions?
Do you sense the Creator, World?
Search for him over the starry firmament!
He must live above the stars.
The swastika symbol on our baton often causes confusion in Europe: “Doesn’t this look like a Nazi swastika?!?” We are asked this question regularly, so we’d like to explain that OUR SWASTIKA is an ancient symbol of good fortune that has been venerated in Asia for thousands of years. Unfortunately, many people have forgotten the original meaning of the swastika symbol in the aftermath of World War 2. The true swastika is contained five times in the symbol that represents Falun Dafa, and it is in itself one of the holiest symbols of mankind. Because its rotating form is reminiscent of a spiral galaxy, it serves as a representation of the universe. Furthermore, it is the sacred sign of the Buddha that can be found on countless Buddha statues across Asia. Even the largest Buddha statue in the world (on Lantau Island in Hong Kong – see picture) has a swastika symbol on its chest.
The word ‘swastika’ comes from Sanskrit, the language of ancient India, and it consists of three parts. ‘Swa’ means ‘higher self’, ‘asti’ means ‘to be’ and ‘ka’ is a suffix. The word therefore means: ‘Higher Being.’ Through Buddhism, which originally came from India, this symbol also came to China. The ancient Chinese believed that Buddhas revealed this symbol to mankind, and it is therefore associated with happiness, purity and other positive things. However, many other cultures have also used the swastika: Aztecs and Mayans used it to decorate burial mounds, clothing, and their jewellery. The ancient Greeks used it on coins and to decorate their temples and palaces. It can also be seen in Roman catacombs, churches, and tombs. The earliest swastika ever found comes from Ukraine: it was carved in mammoth ivory some 12,000 years ago!
We have two different uniforms in the European Tian Guo Marching Band: A modern, American-style uniform with trousers and baseball caps, and costumes inspired by China’s Tang Dynasty!
Our traditional uniform consists of the heavenly colours, white and blue. In typical Chinese style, it has many different components and layers of fabric. In addition, there are broad and ornate adornments in the style of the Tang Dynasty. The chest and back are decorated with Chinese characters that mean “Joy through music”. The snare drummers wear hats with red feathers, while each of the other band members wears a blue cap with a jade stone on the forehead, which represents the goodness in human beings. Our shirts have no buttons, but are tied at the side.
The European Tian Guo Marching Band does not receive any financial support from governments or other public sources: All performances are currently financed by the musicians themselves. Therefore, we welcome sponsors that could help to secure our marching band for the future. Our aim is to become an integral part of European cultural life!
We believe that values and traditions are the basic prerequisites for our society to remain human and to continue to exist into the future! Today, we observe everywhere how society is changing rapidly and how our humanity is being pushed into the background. Many children and adults spend more time with their smartphones than with their fellow human beings. Our human environment is becoming colder and colder. We wish to counteract this trend!
With our marching band, we set an example for a peaceful and vibrant coexistence of generations and cultures. We remind our audience of what is truly important! If you’d like to help support the revival of traditional values and culture, and if the cultivation of classical music is important to you, then you have come to the right place! Help support the European Tian Guo Marching Band as it performs in your city or across Europe!
